Prof. Dr. Miodrag Stojković, the first European scientist who cloned human embryo cells
When you land to Aerodrom “Beograd”, you know you are at home

Lined up among 12 world most perspective scientists, and also the first European scientist who cloned human embryo cells, Prof. Dr. Miodrag Stojković has chosen Aerodrom "Beograd" as one of his favourable places in the country.
During his stay in Belgrade and his native Leskovac from 2 to 5 February this year, Prof. Dr. Stojković first had a meeting with the President of Serbia, Boris Tadić. Sujbect of the meeting was how to start as soon as possible with production of stem cells for treatment purposes. After that, at the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade, he was appointed visiting professor, and gave a well attended lecture with a subject "Place of embrional stem cells in modern medicine". In Leskovac he visited a house under reconstruction which is going to be a speciazed hospital for artificial insemination. Prof. Dr. Stojković hopes that it will be soon finished, perhaps by the end of March. As each time when he comes to his country from abroad, this time too he attracted large interest of public, both the professional and the general one. Completely free from usual scientists` conceit, Prof. Dr. Stojković captivates his conversationalists and listeners with his simplicity and extreme modesty. In a very pleasant and kind manner, he explained to us why he is fond of Aerodrom “Beograd”.
- Because it is the first contact with my country, place you are first welcomed. It is the first stop on your way home. When you land at Aerodrom “Beograd”, you know you have come home – says Prof. Dr. Stojković.
New look of Terminal 2, according to Prof. Dr. Stojković is more than positive.
- I am enthusiastic and positively surprised as to how Terminal 2 looks. Our airport is being given a face of a state of the art world airport, such as, for example, Frankfurt airport or any other world airport. Anyhow, whenever I can, I come home. That means that I come to Serbia seven to eight times a year. Of course, I miss my native town, my country from the moment I went abroad to this date – states Prof. Dr. Stojković.
Talking about this I went aboad on 05 February 1991. Prof. Stojković first went to Germany, where he worked in the University hospital in Hamburg. Two years later, he moved to Munich, where he received Doctorate and “Dr Habil” degree from “Ludwig-Maximilian” University in Munich. From 1996 to 2002 he was engaged in early mammalian embriology research, cell biology, nucleus transfer and epigenetics. In 2002 he moved to Great Britain and joined team at the Medical School of the University in Newcastle and where he was given Chair for Stem Cell Biology and was appointed Deputy Director in the Center for stem cell biology and developing genetics. Since 01 January this year he has been in Valencia, Spain, working as Deputy Director in “De Investigation Principe Felipe” Center. He is visiting professor of two Medical Schools and author co-author of more than 70 scientific publications.

Ana Juzbašić, Passenger Handling Service Manager of JP Aerodrom “Beograd” – the best student in her generation at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering
My ambitions are to stay in this country, in the same company

That JP Aerodrom “Beograd” employs highly educated personnel is not unusual but Miss. Ana Juzbašić, Head of Passenger Handling Service of JP Aerodrom “Beograd”, is evidence that in its lines it also has engaged exceptionally talented people. This young woman is 25 and possesses a couple of diplomas of enviable reputation.
At recently held traditional celebration of St. Sava`s day at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering, apart from receiving diploma for her graduation, with average score 9,71, Ana was also given award as the best student in generation 1999. She is also given reward “Mr Zoran Radosavljević”, which Department for Air Traffic and Transportation where she graduated, gives to the best student in class. She graduated with grade 10 on theme “Railway connection of the Aerodrom Beograd and its serving area”, with her mentor Prof. dr. Vojina Tošića and for this work she says that it is “the crown of her studies”.
She does not think of herself as too ambitious, that trait at her opinion is often considered negative, but she says she is communicative, enthusiastic and sincere. Ana Juzbašić is now attending postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Transport, Department for Management in Transport and Traffic Engineering, focusing her further education at the field of air traffic management i.e. management of airport companies. Thesis for her master degree will be chosen from the field of airport services quality management.
- The Faculty of Transport is the first within Belgrade University to give to its students this year in addition to their diploma of graduation also “Diploma Supplement” nowadays as per trends in educational system of Europe. According to Bologna convention, in addition to diploma with professional title students are also given dossier of their studies with all examinations passed and received grades – says Ana Juzbašić.
Ana adds that the most difficult examination was the last one “Management in traffic and transport”, which initiated her further studies.
What is you job like at the Aerodrom “Beograd”?
- Job of the Head of Passenger Handling Service understands management of passenger flows and handling from the moment when a passenger enters Terminal building to his boarding of aircraft and in arrival from disembarking aircraft to leaving the Terminal building. My job here is not different in any way from the same kind of job elsewhere. Anyway, you learn all your life. The essence is to keep learning and educating yourself, never to be satisfied with what you achieved. Also, this is not my first job. During my studies, I had a three months practical training in the airport company on Spanish island Tenerife.
What are your plans for the future?
- Everybody wants to improve oneself, but nobody knows where the life will take you. My ambition is to stay in this country, if possible in the same company. But apart from wishes there are also other factors that influence someone’s life.
A.M.
Participated in the Project of reconstruction of In the fourth year of High School, Ana Juzbašić decided to enroll the Faculty of Transport, major in air traffic. However, she did not manage at first to enroll desired major. - Unfortunately, my enrollment was in the war year 1999 when only the grades from secondary school were relevant. I did not manage to get immediately the major I wanted, but I did it after completion of the first year of studies, being of the opinion one should not give up from the goal after the first obstacle – she said. |
